Welcome

My name is Emily Malady. I'm a writer, narrative designer, and creative director. Growing up, the Pacific Northwest was my playground, and I used long summer nights under the shadow of Mt. Spokane to let my imagination run wild. My passion for storytelling grew when I attended Point Park University in pursuit of my BFA in Cinema Production. Over four years, I directed over seven short films and worked in various roles on over forty film sets. 
 
In the post-COVID years, I backpacked to over twenty-five countries and continued to develop my voice as a creative. While hiking the Salkantay Trek in Peru and sitting along the rocky shore of the Black Sea in Istanbul, I grew increasingly inspired by the importance of place and how stories were present everywhere. Stories were woven into the chipped paint on a decrepit sign, along the lines of a person's face, and in the lingering smells of the Hawker stalls in Singapore. 
 
Yearning to learn more, I was accepted into an MFA program at the Savannah College of Art & Design for Dramatic Writing. After a quarter at SCAD, I quickly found my niche in themed entertainment writing. I had the incredible opportunity to work as a Narrative Design intern at Universal Creative. There, I developed story reference guides for Epic Universe, wrote within the worlds of major IPs, and ideated for new experiences. 
 
In the past few years, I've written a full-length play that was produced by SCAD, developed a projection show for SCAD's Lacoste campus with a team of writers, and I crafted the story reference guides for the Universal Kids Resort. Some of my creative goals for the future include expanding my experience as a narrative designer, experimenting with transmedia storytelling, and crafting live entertainment experiences. Another passion of mine includes writing impactful stories that raise awareness and destigmatize mental and behavioral health. 
 
When I'm not writing or listening to sad boy music, I'm probably training for some long race,  playing guitar, petting my cats, or travelling. Looking forward to connecting!
